I'm constantly asked why my comics focus on "women's rights". Well, it's not that I'm focusing on "women's rights" as much as trying to ensure "human rights" are being applied fairly across the board.
If you would like for me to end discussion on women's rights, etc, in "geek entertainment"? OK, that's fine. My comics really shouldn't be about shoehorning political positions or social justice issues, or trying to validate any other of my opinions. I mean, I may feel strongly about something, but there is a time and place for it; if I wanted to make comics which tackles these issues, I would've made a series where it's ALL about that.
But at least I'll admit that taking a position on something publicly allows other people to chime in with their opinions; I may be right, I may be wrong, but it's good to get more info on the subject my opinion is on rather than assume I have it completely down. Especially when it comes to something that isn't part of "my world"; namely, as a white male, I can't really speak on issues which women, LGBT folk or non-white minorities face because I've never actually experienced those things for myself. I can say that it's awful, and I can try my best to NOT continue those negatives to the best of my ability... but it's not my world to dictate what other people should think.
